L'Ambroxan ha una struttura cristallina e chimica identica all'ambrox derivato dall'ambra grigia. Per secoli, l'ambra grigia è stata forse l'ingrediente più pregiato in profumeria. È una sostanza alquanto misteriosa, espulsa dal capodoglio, che raggiunge il suo raffinato profumo solo dopo una lunga maturazione in mare.
L'ambra grigia è rara al giorno d'oggi, e l'"ambra" in una fragranza moderna sarà l'equivalente, creato in laboratorio, di alcune delle molecole aromatiche che ne compongono il profumo. Di gran lunga, la più pregiata di queste è la molecola naturale identica all'Ambroxan. L'ambra grigia è sempre stata apprezzata per la sua raffinatezza e sensualità, e questa qualità persiste nell'Ambroxan.
L'Ambroxan è stato isolato da fonti vegetali nel 1950.
La percentuale massima che può essere disciolta in un composto profumato è del 13,5%. Di più, e inizia a cristallizzare dalla soluzione. La maggior parte delle fragranze con note "ambrate" ne contiene l'1-2%.
La molecola 02 è composta al 100% da Ambroxan in alcol e un po' d'acqua. Questa è meglio descritta come una morbidezza fresca, quasi minerale, che si espande delicatamente per avvolgerti in strati olfattivi di molecole sensuali e scintillanti.
